Back for an amazing second series ‘The Great Way’ takes us on a journey to some of the world’s greatest hiking routes. A round-the-world trip told through the people of the trails showing how these paths connect us with the Earth and take us back to our roots. In series two, Alba and Raul get their backpacks ready and start a new journey travelling to places like Jordan, Turkey and the Canary Islands, among others. Along the way, they meet hikers and pilgrims travelling on all kinds of journeys; natural, spiritual and cultural, discovering the many reasons they chose to walk.

Beginning at the industrial revolution of the ‘great north’, Jenn Nkiru draws lines between peoples, cities, countries, buildings, movements, bodies and spaces(s) using a mixture of archive materials and new footage. There is little stillness as we are pushed and pulled through Black histories and communities across the city of Manchester and beyond. Nkiru has termed this filmmaking process “cosmic archeology”, and it is grounded in Afro-surrealism, experimental film and the Black arts movement.

100 years have passed since the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. Although filmed records of its aftermath exist, the footage held flaws making it difficult to identify locations or times, obscuring the reality of how citizens of Tokyo faced this overwhelming disaster. To understand these details, we remastered the film and attempted to colorize it, while also making full use of audio accounts by survivors and a variety of scientific analyses by specialists. This program opens a new window into the events surrounding the disaster that had once been shrouded in mystery.
